First few days on Ko Phi Phi Don

Getting to Ko Phi Phi, an archipelago just east of the resort town of Phuket (which Honi Mundi wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole) was quite a journey, consisting of a 12 hour overnight bus ride ...

... during which a tire blew ...

... followed by 3 hours in a Toyota Commuter van packed full with sweaty backpackers and their oversized backpacks ...

... followed by a 2 hour ferry ride to the main deep water peer in the town of Ton Sai on Ko Phi Phi Don, the largest and only inhabited island of the archipelago ...

... followed by a quick 5 minute ride on one of the Thai longboats to our beach-side bungalow.

We left at 6AM on Wednesday night, and arrived at noon the next day. Needless to say, our asses hurt (and not because of Will Smith).

We spent the second half of Thursday checking out the town and hiking up to the viewpoint.

On Friday, as we usually do when we go to a beach, we decided to spend the day by simply picking a direction and walking. Since we're staying just west of Long Beach. Thoughts of Sublime and West Coast ska in mind, we decided to head East towards Long Beach, where I finally busted out the tripod I've been lugging around:

Reaching the end of Long Beach, we turned North towards Loh Moh Dee Beach ...

... where we came across a dead tuk tuk along the way (sniff) ...

... and some local Thai homes ...

... and dropped down into a private coconut plantation ...

... reaching Loh Moh Dee beach at low tide, where we were able to see some live colorful coral and sea urchins above water.

We then hiked back to the hotel with a storm rolling in ...

quickly changed clothes, walked into town ...

... had some fresh seafood for dinner ...

... and finished the night off with a bucket of rum, coke, and (real, original, non-carbonated) Red Bull).

Check out the rest of the photos from this part of the journey here.
